FAIRFIELD COMMUNITY CHURCH AND ITS UNIQUE HISTORY

The church—originally called Fairfield Missionary Church—was started by members of the Calvary Church in Hamilton who believed God would have them start a church in the Fairfield community.
From the time it was organized on July 20, 1959, until the charter membership was closed on August 31 the same year, they had 52 members. Rev. and Mrs. Paul Grabill had been called to pastor, and a full complement of officers had been appointed. The church officially became affiliated with the Missionary Church Association on September 25, 1959. The first service was held in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Mack Reed, and the group met later in the UAW Union Hall, Fairfield Central Elementary School, Hayes Elementary School, and the Hillcrest Recreation Center. The organization bought three acres of land at 5650 Winton Road in October 1959. A ground-breaking service was conducted on November 1, and construction began. The building housed the main sanctuary, basement hall and kitchen, eight classrooms, nursery, pastor’s study, and a parsonage apartment with bath. The first public service was held in this building on July 23, 1960. The cornerstone laying ceremony was conducted on September 25, 1960, and the dedication service was held on June 10, 1962. Special events in the past included an outstanding revival with the Sutera Twins in 1961. Now, our annual Harvest Home service in October—among our calendar of other events—is always an enjoyable time of fellowship. Several families have experienced the healing and salvation of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. In 2005, Rev. Richard Sterwerf became the pastor, and in 2006, the name was changed from Fairfield Missionary Church to Fairfield Community Church. |
STAYING TOGETHER IN TOUGH TIMES |
In 2020 and throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, there were hardships experienced by all of us. It was our mission to make sure we stayed dedicated to bringing the message of Christ to you, even when you were stuck at home. That's why we started offering a weekly live stream of our Sunday worship services on our Facebook page, which you can still tune in for every Sunday.

WHAT WE DO |
Over the years, we've had youth groups, B.A.S.I.C.s (Brothers and Sisters in Christ) meetings, men's and women's retreats, block parties for the community and adults with disabilities, trunk or treat events, vacation Bible school (VBS), Valentine's Day parties, Easter egg hunts, and special holiday services and meals (like Harvest Home or Mother's and Father's days).
One of our most treasured occasions is our annual box packing event for Operation Christmas Child. We gather gifts and supplies, pack them into sturdy, shoebox-sized containers, and label them before sending them around the world via Samaritan's Purse. Check our calendar for upcoming event dates. Mostly, though, we take joy and comfort in each other's company as we meet each week to celebrate and learn more about the Lord. |
